The free verse was written for the contest by Craig Cornish. Written to fit the melody by Dave Grusin's main theme to "On Golden Pond". After watching this 1981 film and hearing the theme instrumental I felt the words come to me. A great movie showing what families live through and in the end still love and forgive.
On Golden pond
(to the sound of the Original Soundtrack Version)
Morning
Calling
Our loons searching for their love
Echoing in the air
Welcome back I’m here
Yellow gold painted sky at sunrise glows bright
Joyfully watching them swimming and play till dusk
Clasping hands tightly upon our hearts hoping that time
Will keep us safe we pray
On Golden Pond
Here our souls live and breathe as we watch falling leaves to the ground
Reminiscences upon our parentage life here with each passing season
Therefore takes us to present prime united through our family strife
Remembering life began on golden pond
Veil of haze has covered your aged eyes
Treasured moments lost in a maze
Scents of yellow flowers bring healing
Watching you sorrow floods me like a fount
Our harmony quickly fades before my very eyes
Please recall just once the whale sound of our loons again
Calling out to its love as I call to you now
Can you hear me?
Can you meet me?
I’m over here
