On Being Nosy

What is it to me if The teenage girl next door Leaves on a date dressed up Like a downtown whore? If her brother wears his cap With the bill in the back And their father drives up In a ratty old hearse Cadillac? Why do I let the smallest Things annoy me so? I think I would move away If I had some place to go. written July 27, 2021

I have a theory Milt - since I took early retirement I have found I have more time on my hands so it follows I have more time to think...and look...and why is that person parking outside my house right now? :) Great poem. Cheers - Gary

I hear you loudly and clearly, Gary. You have hit the nail on the head, so to speak. Thanks for your thoughtful, wise comment on my poem.

I have to smile, because so many times the weirdest things bother me for no good reason.

And I thought I was the only one! Read below.

Better to be Nosy, methinks, than to have to put up with noisy neighbors...

You make a good point there, gw; see Maurice below, who has the other problem!!!

You've hit a nerve we all have, Milton! I live in a retirement complex with a variety of ethnic peoples. One of my gripes is people who talk loud in the corridors at all hours of the day and night, as if they were the only residents who lived here. It's annoying but we can do nothing about it. Management keeps its nose out of most thing here unless the police are involved. / Maurice

It IS a shame that people are ego-centric, as though they are the only people on the planet. It's so aggravating. And, I'm convinced that some people are deliberate about it.

I often wonder what my neighbors think of me and what they may think I'm up to! Makes life fun as is your Nosy poem!!

I suppose it is something to occupy a busy mind, right? Thanks for your thoughts, Mike.

Milt, your poem made me smile because I also notice things about my neighbors that make me wonder why they are doing this or that. I am sort of a "live and let live" sort of person but still, it makes me want to say something but I resist that urge and turn my attention to my lovely garden (maybe they think I am odd too) ~ peace and tranquility _Constance

Constance, I loved your comments on my poem. I think our thoughts are common. Although the poem is fictional, I think it is a common malady among neighbors.

Sometimes it is best to keep the blinds close so what you see won't bother you... It use to irritate my husband too if a person wear his hat bill in the back. But my grandson does the same and he is in his 4th year of medical college. I too have my pet peeves. :)

I cannot help you there since I'm a loner. My husband a 20 year Navy man, so many things bothered him, and I couldn't understand why. They were frivolous.

Eve, do you think men tend to be more easily annoyed by small, insignificant things than women? Just wonderin'?

I suppose you're right, Eve. This is largely fictional, since I have fine neighbors...but, there are small, insignificant things that do annoy me, which lead to the verse. Thanks for your read and your comment.
