On Becoming a Better Poet

Seek to help a good friend! Trophies, your heart, will never mend! Sure, poetry sites have contests. But few and sparse, you can bet. Just throwing money at this site?. Does not make me a poet, right? Some walk about dreaming they are the poet laureate. And that’s the most absolutely zany idea yet. It takes ten years at least to be a good poet. I know clearly, I have not arrived there yet. Take your time, learn the poetry forms, classical. It’s not a must, but makes your ideas magical! I know, I won’t be believed, just catch more heat. But truth is best and cannot be beat! 5/5/2022

We can only offer our thoughts and experiences in a poetic way. I'm just beginning to develop as a poet. Our words are seeds that may blossom in a reader we don't even know. We are the planter, not the one that determines if the poem is good or poetry. Write what your heart needs to say, then step back and let words have their way. There are many different reasons to write here on poetry soup, we do not know the intention anyone else has for being here, to each their own. Bill

Well said, Pangie; I have read some great poetry here on Soup. Far superior than university, politically correct laureates, and far better than many of our famous predecessors. I agree with you and Joe, Great poetry is spiritually charged substance.

Hi Joe...good poetry exists in many places... I am glad you like the poetry here. When spirituality is in a poem, it glows. I was not putting down famous poets. They earned thei place in history. I salute them. Yours, Pangie. Be Blessed!
