On a Dark, Dark Halloween Night

In a Dark, Dark room, on Halloween Night, when the fun was finally done.
When the veil between worlds is so very thin, after the sun had gone down.
We had gathered in front of the fireplace… waiting for a deed, to be done.
Seems we’d bought this house long ago, after a tragic accident had gone down.

Rain fell heavily, as always, on this night, as lightening did strike the ground.
A fitting night, to bring peace to a ghost, not far from where the tragedy began.
A young teenage girl had gone to a party, in a car full of her very best friends.
One of the mothers was driving them home, when a drunk swerved into them.

It had been raining, with lightening, all around, and all but one made it home.
Yes, everyone made it out alive, that night… all except for one, very special one.
Now each year she asks for a ride that will take her home, to her beloved Mom.
She gets a ride to her house, and rings the bell to be let in, as her key was lost.

But every year she disappears, when her Mom isn’t the one to answer the door.
Her Mom passed away, when she heard her only daughter had passed that night.
A heart broke that night, now she awaits in heaven, as her daughter awaits here.
This year we would try to bestow to the daughter and mom… a very special treat.

For we’d found, lost in a corner of the attic a box of pictures and a little teddy bear.
Then we’d found someone for a séance, and a summoning spell, to the front door.
Midnight rang as we’d moved outside on the porch as a car suddenly drove up.
In front of us sat a teddy bear, wrapped in ribbon, holding a picture, of them both.

We summoned the Mom just in time for the girl to reach the bottom of the steps.
An eerie glow encompassed both, as we quietly held our breathe on either side.
Between them stood the picture and bear, to bring them together, finally, at last.
Sure enough, the Mom smiled as her daughter ran into her arms, it was done, at last.

Then they faded away, together, that night, as tears of joy ran down their face.
We sat there frozen, in the eerie gloom, of a night, that might never have been…
If not for a picture, a teddy bear, and a summoning spell that we brought to them.
Believe it or not, I do not care, but the most amazing thing, we found that night…

Upon the Picture, wrapped in the arms of the Teddy Bear, were tears of joy. Amen!

A new twist on an Urban legend.

Very good! I don't like my Mexican food too hot. And I don't like my Halloween stories too scary. This one passed the Goldilocks test; just right! I really enjoyed it. Thanks - Dean

I really enjoyed this tragic story with a very happy ending. Most of these kinds of tales don't turn out for the better, so it was such a refreshing change to have a different twist at the end.... A terrific write, Carol! Very nicely done!

Oh my gosh. This has such an eerie quality to it, Carol. A perfect poem for Halloween! Love, Carolyn (I've been afraid to see the movie "Anabelle") If she were a Teddy Bear, it would be more appealing.

Enjoyed this fine Halloween write my friend. Dark tales abound this mystical month. Yours was a very good one to read. Happy endings rare in dark tales but in yours it was great..
