Yes, everything must align, and yet nothing is wasted with the pursuit if winning isn't your only focus, but keeping your integrity intact. Tears flood for both the winners and losers - the intensity of performance. Well done!

As a former competitive swimmer I got a taste of what athletes go through to achieve their athletic goals. I decided to join the working world rather than go to swimming practice at 6 in the morning, then 5 in the evening. I respect athletes who hang in there. Superb write, Gershon.
