Notes About The Poem

Oh My

Oh My

Politics.
Bad subject.
I don’t even like to talk about it.
I don’t like to vote.
I don’t want to be involved.

All those commercials on TV…
On and on, back and forth they go.
I hate this, you hate that, yawn.
I want to go to the mall.
I want to get a new phone.
I am getting braces.
My friend is getting a car,
I want one too.
I am getting free education.
I am getting free health care.
I am.
I am.
I am.

I am hungry.
I use to have a dog. We had to eat her.
I use to have a cat. We traded her… for needs.
We stand in line now. No one’s phone rings, no internet, no news.
We take what they give us.
We are respectful, and grateful.
We are afraid.

Speech in no longer free.
Oh my…

Remember that Jan and Dean song from the '60's about cars: "Listen to 'em whine, whine, whine." LOL. Only now it's people.... And you know the favorite WINE of spoiled, entitled (suburban) wives: (Nasal intonation): "I want to go to Florida!" LOL. ~ Wonderful Wino
