Of Lion Love

My feline bittersweet awakening came decked with golden trim of flawless days. A time it was to frolic and to fling ourselves in grass, all afternoon to laze. Together we were fearless, wild and free, a noble lion and his lioness. And sadly, neither one of us could see that passion such as ours would evanesce. Our error was believing that each kiss could carry us. . . that love could multiply or even match July’s exceeding bliss. By summer’s end, our ardor had run dry. A lion’s appetite can satiate, and love - less noble then - will soon abate. Posted 6/11/11/ Now used for the In the Name of Love Contest of Shadow Hamilton

Awesome sonnet from your archives; so happy to see it for the first time! Your personification of the lion/lioness growing apart is at once creative and sad. A parable of growing up, "fearless, wild and free" as youths in love, "By summer’s end, our ardor had run dry" after the honeymoon. Enjoyed the internal rhyme with multiply/July, and as always your IP meter and rhyme are spot on and such a delight to read. Enjoyed very much! ~ John

"A time it was to frolic and to fling ourselves in grass, all afternoon to laze..." I pray that one sunny day when the moment and the audience are right, I shall remember this line. A lovely weave of lovely lines.

What a great piece this is. Puts me in mind of a story I read once about a boy who loved a wood nymph. She allowed herself to love him too and bcause of this lost her immortality and died. Before dying she told him that woods fires burn hot ad bright but hearth fires are warmer and last longer. Great little moral for the story. Good stuff here, God Bless, JB

(dis)honorable mention is absurdly low for this unusual story of animal erotics and a perfect iambic pentameter piece with exotic words like "evanesce".....you're a very skilled technical poet no doubt....well done Andrea
