From the confines of this, as safe a harbor my needs afford,
     I began my journey.

My mind leapt to scale these walls of raveled thoughts
into shapes and colors I have no claim too, for places never seen,
at a pace to thrust a lifetime into moments
with burgeoning fears that it may end without the end
that lends any credence to reality.

I share no hope of altering its heaving arrogant breath of fear,
of joy, of pleasure, of mischief, of pain and loss.
It was if I could touch the chill and at the same time
share the wonder of its warmth.

This dream, the rarest of possessions, never shared,
was for a moment as clear as the first ray of sunlight.

As I dare open my eyes, it was gone.
Leaving me with only a faint and distant memory
like the soft echo of sweet perfume
and the tragedy of loves lost.

You've taken something abstract, and through use of such beautifully tangible description, you've made it concrete. Awesome!

That is awesome indeed. I like the flow and the seemingly contradicting complements.

Beautifully expressed, Charlie! And a great last stanza! Dreams are mysterious invaders of the mind. How they manifest themselves science nor psychology have yet to explain. Thank you for stopping by. Best to you in your writing endeavors. / M

A lovely poem accompanied by an equally delightful picture, Charlie. The land of dreams is hard to describe, even though we've been there many times. Hardly ever the same scenery and emotions; sometimes I wonder if I am supposed to be there at all, or if I'm an intruder!! ~ Regards // paul

I think we all have the same experiences but with varying emotions that make them uniquely personal. I, for one, don't believe dreams can truly be analyzed by others because memories of what happens in them fade so quickly. Thanks for the visit Paul...

Some dreams become such personal adventures, that they are too hard to put into words, but you have made them as if you have been away, another lifetime ago. Lovely poem, Charlie!

A very beautiful poem, Charlie. Yes, dreams have a mind of their own and come and go at will, sometimes leaving us wanting more when they suddenly end with no real end. Nicely done. 7, Sandra

This write is literally what dreams are made of! How many times "as I dared open my eyes" and "it was gone" have I wanted to close them again and recapture where it left off!!!! This is so relatable and precise! And yes, these are the "rarest of possessions!" EVER!!!
