Of, By and For the People

Of, By and for the People
By Franklin Price

Of, by and for the people
Is what the papers say
I think somehow we've lost that
Somewhere along the way

The Constitution's well intended
To let all participate
Allow the equally created
Determine this great country's fate

The longer we're a country
The lesser people's sway
I think the major cause
Happens on election day

All of those elected
Are by majority
With less than half the people voting
I ask how can that be?

To those of you who do not vote
I dare you to complain
Gave up your rights election day
For you I only have disdain

I hear so many reasons
My favorite that you've bought
“The rich control all anyway
My vote it goes for naught”

Without your participation
By voting on election day
The rich convince the voting few
And have their selfish way

Choose candidates that you would like
Cast your vote as you should do
Be that crucial part of government
Of, by and for the people too
