Of Ancient Rulers and Other Things

Amidst the artifacts
   of ancient rulers
One feels the weight
   of history
The boundaries of time
   give way
and forgotten empires
    are alive once more
The tombs are filled
    with magnificent
items
  to speed the deceased to
a better world
There will come a
    time
When our civilization
   shall fall
Future generations
   will look back upon
    our artifacts
And feel what we feel now
The feeling of the river of time
As it flows on and on
Beneath our very feet

So many civilizations have come and gone through the millenia. Perhaps ten thousand years from now, some of our personal belongings will be on exhibit in a museum. Nice write. Check out your thirteenth line: Did you really mean "better" instead of "batter"? I have sent you soup mail.

Alas, the flow of history. It sure makes us feel a tinge of sadness knowing one day "we" will be the artifacts!

Matt, my earth/water poem was not shape or concrete. All etheree poems look that way because they decrease one syllable per line. I am not good with shape poetry. I think it helps to be savvy with computers to make shapes with your words!! Let me read your poem now.
