Ode To Odd

Hail, all you freaks of nature, come
Display your oddities, exotic ones
disfigured maladies to fascinate and stun!

Your grand exhibits marvel and attract
curious crowds that look and gawk and gasp
while inside you are crying, outwardly you act.

Come, see a strange display, half woman and half man
a bearded lady, conjoined twins, a small dwarf upon a stand
micro cephalic women, dressed like dolls, a snake man without hands.

You outcasts of society who lead a lonely life
abused, misused, confused, and often fraught with strife
take heart, the God who made you has you in His sight.

Many years ago there was a movie called "Nightmare Alley" starring Tyrone Power. (WAY before your time) Your poem recalls with great dark quality the sadness of the "odd" assembly -but gives rise to the promise all humanity seeks. Well done. :)

I'll have to watch that movie, Margaret. I also saw an old movie called "Freaks" which was sad but well done. Thanks for your comments!

It is sad what people submitted these people to. Very well expressed.
