Ode To Mary

In search of peace we burn away
The remnants of each hazy day
In hope of understanding what
We may find among your residue.
An altar of glass holds your offering
Auspicious beauty so rarely perceived
So jaded are we, renew our hope
In the sanctity of our humanity.
That we may feel again—
Let brotherhood sprout forth.
That we may breathe again—
Let this plant take root within.
We inhale—exhale—cough—choke,
And yearn each day for the billowing smoke.
