Notes About The Poem

Jan Hus (1368-1415) Hus is pronounced like goose. Hus being Czechoslavakian for goose. The swan is a reference to Martin Luther.

Ode to Jan Hus

They burnt Jan Hus
In Fourteen Fifteen
They cooked his goose

A swan you will see
In Fifteen Seventeen
From Jan Hus prophesy

His ashes were thrown into the Rhine
As a metaphor his influence spreads
Like a river that flows throughout time
