October Rain

Is it simply a case of precipitation, moist warm air condensation or are they God’s tears showering us with love, as rain washes away our sorrows, in the hope of brighter tomorrows. Gloomy grey skies conceal a shy sun with murky dull clouds lingering. A cornucopia of soggy brown leaves slither and slide under our feet. A plethora of rain drops fall capriciously with no concern for those they disturb. Ladies shelter under umbrellas appearing morose, whilst school children splatter in puddles, laughing and giggling in sheer delight. The rain is never cold when one is young. Pollutant auto mobiles drive by monotonously their passengers are safe as windscreen wipers clear their way. Stores are lit with commercialised displays as the air fills with excitement for fun that awaits. In hope the October rain does not dampen their spirits. Squirrels gather up supplies ready to hibernate. High above birds fly south for warmer temperatures. A fragile old leaf falls upon me through the blustery wind, leading to a philosophical thought about turning over a new leaf. Lost within the season of change and contemplation, one thing will never change though – the October rain. The Silent One originally written 29 October 2015 re-posted 18 October 2017

The last stanza where you think of turning over a new leaf is the reality that has been masked by your gorgeous imagery and emotions in the preceding stanzas. October rain perhaps comes to wash away the remnants of a storm, but I believe like everything else it stays and becomes a reminder of the journey. Nevertheless, one to be remembered yet turned over. Glad I am reading some of the best verses in archives :)

Seeing the rain through different pairs of eyes. We live through the joy and laughter of the youth. Love the end with the philosophical leaf! Enjoyed, Silent! Blessings for a wonderful day <3 Kim

Excellent existential musing, SO. You do this so well, it's as if your pen is putting on an old, familiar, perfectly draped cloak of creativity. You write w/compassionate authority. Your deep thoughts of contemplation always lead to poetic enlightenment. Keep the love and knowledge flowing, my friend. Amazing write. Very luminous star bright. Love and smiles forever.

poets observe, and this poem is filled with observation, October is also filled with mass marketing, some of which your poem touched on

What an intelligent poem! Among the various lessons inherent in this poem, I gleaned is that what's a blessing for some in a given moment is a hindrance for others. Reading your poem on a background of interaction, feels like having a free Enlish tutor, unlike reading a poem from a book.

The October rain is a natural climate, and it is also our mood. The rain brings leaves away, washes our sorrow away, and also bring us the hope of survival. Not pleased by external gains, not saddened by personal losses. Let nature take its course, indifferent to tranquility. What do you think, my friend?
