Notes About The Poem

October

October turns another numbered page
Act three of nature's seasonal ballet
While dreams of summer gradually assuage
Bright dancing leaves now star in autumn's play

Chilled mornings waken to a heavy dew
Cold mercury begins it's slow descent
The sun pulls closer for a better view
And blankets thrown on beds wear moth balls' scent

But spirits are not dampened by the change
Young children's dreams grow sweeter by the day
While mothers clean spare rooms and rearrange
As they prepare for coming holidays

October means that festive times are here
Let's grab ourselves a bratwurst and a beer

Such a joyous, festive Sonnet, Daniel! I enjoyed your poem very much. I was shopping today and all the Holloween decorations have been out for a while and now Thanksgiving and Christmas too. Your Sonnets are amazing! Sandra

Moth balls I remember from childhood. I love the line about the sun pulling closer. That must be why it gets in my eyes.

Sign me up for the bratwurst n beer. Sounds wonderful. I also like how you coupled the 3 syllable words together throughout. Created a very halloweeny rhythm. Very cool. I didn't like how I had to look up what assuage means, but I don't hold you responsible for my idiocy Excellent write!
