I stay close to the ocean. Its wild waters surround me, And the thundering waves Rant and rave around me. I see the leviathan, Screaming at me, Charging feral, Like an enraged beast. It snarls at me. It howls and yells. In its deadening roar In its pouncing gait In its sweeping rush In its pounding thud I hear the wail of a banshee, Announcing death. I become so small. I become so powerless. A helpless doe, Before a mighty foe. At another time The sea lies quiet like a babe. Its violent tantrums lulled to sleep. Its bosom heaving in peaceful slumber. Its rhythmic beat, its magic, and the charm, Its depth and beauty all combined. I see the gulls in the air. I hear them squeal. I feel the waves over the sand, Lapping around my feet. I listen to their murmur and shout. I glance at dolphins over the surf. I watch them dance. I behold ships over the waters. I see them glide. I hear the night air sing. I feel the spray of water, And sense its coolness, I notice seashells, Half buried under the sand, I pick one from the strand, To tie it around my neck, As an amulet, With the ceaseless whisper of waves And the sea’s undying commotion Shut and encased within!

Valsa such a wonderful stirring depiction of the two faces of the sea. The wild, angry, treacherous, unforgiving ocean, and the warm calm beautiful ocean, that we all love, adorned by sea shells and sand. What a marvelous write and thoroughly deserving of first place in the Ocean competition. Congrats

As an islander i cant help but sigh as i read this, life of an island girl you’ve shown here especially that ending, sea shells and amulets! I have so many sea shell amulets and necklaces which my sister makes. And i really love how powerful the opening lines and flow of this is, youve expressed and described how in the midst of raging oceans and waves we feel so vulnerable and rise beyond all that. I love how uv written abt night songs. Powerful write. Thank you for writing. CONGRATULATIONS

I feel honored that I have secured a first place win in your contest. Thank you so much for your magnanimity. Hearing these words of praise from you is indeed so delightful, though I don't deserve them. I know I cannot come any where near you, still I will continue to admire you from a diistance. I am sure you are so close to the sea as an Islander and have watched its twin faces.

A beautiful and gripping piece Valsa and understand how the ocean can grip you in it's alluring presence. Love the storyline to this piece and how you walk away with a piece of the sea; an amulet. Xx

Valsa, Your poem delves into the depths of the sea, a profound analogy for triumphing over adversity. It artfully portrays the tranquil beauty and treacherous perils that the ocean embodies. Living by the shore, in the wake of daily calamities, has rendered it an unsafe haven. Your composition resonates with raw emotion, painting a vivid picture of the myriad sensations evoked by the ocean. BOL with the contest

You're so good Valsa, one of the best here really. You poetically depict both the serenity and danger of the ocean. At this time in human history I would not want to live near a shore, just visit. But in the new world to come, maybe. Then the sea will be as quiet as a sleeping babe, untainted, unspoiled

You captured these feelings with so much emotion and so much imagery in your words.. its so vivid how you feel around the ocean.. your poem is deeper than any sea and could also be an analogy about overcoming a struggle.. love that ending how you wear it around the neck... a reminder of adversity in our life.. Ink will love this one, I am sure...
