Occupied
In midnight hush where shadows creep..
A voice not mine disturbs my sleep.
It whispers secrets through my teeth..
And moves my limbs from far beneath.
My hands are not my own at night..
They scribble names in candlelight.
A stranger's laugh slips from my throat..
A shiver clings to every note.
The mirror shows a war inside..
Two faces flicker, one must hide.
My eyes, once blue, now flicker black..
They vanish when I’m turning back.
It knows my dreams, it steals my skin..
It worms its way and burrows in.
I fight, I plead, I scream, I pray..
But it grows stronger every day.
The people say I’ve changed my tone..
My gait, my stare, the way I moan.
They see the twitch beneath my grin..
They sense the rot that grows within.
And when I sleep, it walks and feeds..
It writes in blood, it plants its seeds.
A shell I’ve become, cracked and worn..
My body possessed since I was born.
So if I speak in tongues tonight..
Or claw the walls with all my might.
Don’t try to help, don’t come too near..
The thing inside is always here.
