O Love, My Love

O love, my love…where in this lonesome hour
Can my heart with sweet abandon find you there?
If chance upon the wind, you do float as lotus flower
Would on my earthen bed you gladly fare?

I am your silent lover…though cloaked in gentile guise
With lips, mine own affection would I treat you
And in the twilight’s gloaming your embrace there would I prize
If fate would look away while there I greet you.

O suitors, I commend thy will to win her proffered hand
While exile finds me close enough to see
Yet mark this, would be lovers, her hand there you may find
But her gentle heart was offered first to me.

Hey guys. After working and reworking my poem into a proper sonnet, and letting mull for a week, I have decided that the reshaping of it into something else, took a great deal of "life" out of the work, so it has reverted back to original form. ~Christopher Thor Britt

NOTE FROM POET: I have added a couplet to complete this poem as a sonnet. Thank you Debbie Guzzi for your input. To any who would wish to, Read it anew from the perspective of the late lover who yet haunts his beloved.

Debbie. Thank you for your complimentary comments. I have acted upon your observation of being one couplet short of a sonnet, and have completed the piece as such. If you will, please read it anew from the perspective of the late lover who yet haunts his beloved. I welcome your input.
