Notes About The Poem

A Hypnagogic Dream Poetry Contest    N/A

Unrhymed iambic pentameter hypercatalectic: 5 hendecasyllabic (11 syllables) lines [*/|*/|*/|*/|*/|*]

*Please note that some people may pronounce “mischievous” with an additional syllable, resulting in the nonstandard pronunciation “miss-CHEE-vee-us”.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Distort of sounds strum his bow —sawed heart rhythms,
mischievous fool impels my mind's rapt boredom.
The devil's finger warns and pivots, sedates,
adrift among alleged stolen dreamscapes.
The jester sleeps all day, perplexed I awake.

That you Suzette! Very helpful. Can't rely on syllable counter for the word mischievous! I added the word 'rapt'.

Mischievous! Oh! Well i dont think i have the patience for meter, I do admire tho, i saw this contest and i was like whoa sounds tough n here u are writing like , breathing air! How clever u are and talented . I love the pictures uv used here and how uv described this dream, sometimes when one is sleepless we hear and see things, not there too, those stolen dreamscapes, and how jester sleeps all day, all so eloquently depicted! Soul stirring write this is! Absolute pleasure reading this

One day I'd like to put the right words together, where it's easy for the reader to interpret, metered poetry eh. The images were necessary although, she won't see them. I hope I finish my poem on time for yours! Metaphors are for our dreams, yes? Thank you for your encouraging visits Ink Empress. <--Love that name..royalty!

Twilight dreams have such an effect, that they move me to an unsettling distraction. Bringing you tears, more than I imagined, you are a sensitive soul, Charlotte

True, Victor, this one is about my persistent nemesis in my dreams. It's about "Hypnagogia" is the transition between wakefulness and sleep. Phantasma!

The photos really depicted the poetry well, Anaya. Your choice of words painted a collage of the photos. Well written, my friend and a good entry for the contest. Good luck! I think it will place well. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

I needed the images, since limited syllables and stressed syllables makes for less discription and more storyline. I think. Thank you, Bill!
