Now Begins the Thanksgiving Season
Now begins the Thanksgiving Season
Yesterday, November 22, we all had a reason
To give thanks for our bounty, to count each of our blessings
Whatever they were, perhaps turkey with fine dressings
But today, the day after, is when the real work begins
The daily task of sharing what we have with those who are in
Less fortunate circumstances, who don't have what to eat
Who depend on you and me for the tiniest piece of meat
So, volunteer at that soup kitchen, and write a check to it too
Greet everyone cheerfully who looks poorer than you
When you see someone begging on the corner with a cup
Drop a few coins in AND TALK to him: Ask him, "What's up?"
'Cuz what he really is craving is your interest and conversation
Your smile and kind words stand between him and isolation
