Not yours to make

I am not your choice to make.
I liked you first
But in liking and loving,
First means nothing.
It is no more than a word.
You liked me back
And it thought that was crazy
Until I saw you look at her.

When she walks into the room,
Your eyes light up in a way
That I have never seen.
You are brightened by her presence.
Your head turns instinctively
And you are captivated by her.

I see the way you smile
-it is not just a smile.
It is the kind filled with memories
That I will never know.
It is loaded with
Feelings locked away,
And all things cherished.
It is everything I know
I could never compete with.

And then you come to me
Because now you’re unsure
Whether you like me anymore.

You are faced with two choices
And I am not yours to make.
