Not Pretty In Pink

Just thirteen and already hiding, capped off like an old oil well, ears clamped shut with a musical flair of pink in a bush of unkempt hair. Thirteen and all balled up like a tribble in a Star-Trek bin rounded shoulders, head down tucked nope, not, never getting into her skin. Already hiding behind the glass of frames too big for her head, legs crossed, sketchbook open drawing the visions inside her instead. Capped teeth with braces if she only knew [though she seemed to guess, I’m sure] lots of strut was needed, swagger, panache all of which she abhorred. Off she’s gone behind lashes of woe brought on by who knows what, or who? Like an old oil well, she sits and waits that is unless she blows? Ears clamped shut blaring bloody what, who knew? Not pretty in pink, not petite, or polite do you know her I do.

Awesome insight Debbie! Being 13 is an awkward age and you described her to a tee. Great write and win! Hugs

Debbie. This is simply fabulous. There is so much here to interpret...this could and [is likely] as other's have said, most women; and yes, even some men in America. I half wonder though if this isn't inspired by one well known musical personality in particular. For some reason, Lady Gaga comes to mind. Just my musings. CTB

Ah yes!!! Every girl knows her.....I think.there is a part of her inside every shy girl, who felt "left out" .......that painful child who maybe hasn't yet bloomed........but watch out when she does....she'll knock em' dead! I love this girl.

WOW! Well, I know parts of her very well... ah, but the skin, the skin was always far too thin and everything just seemed to reach in and help itself. What a portrait you have painted. Hugs, Dee

no, no, not me..I may have been labeled an ugly duckling BUT I never curled in..I ALWAYS had a voice, and even if they got me crying I returned the favor by verbally ripping their faces off..NOT me above..

You bring out the insecurity of not feeling comfortable with ones self during the teen years so well in this write. New a lot of people like this.
