Not Picture Perfect-F
Please understand; I'm not complaining.
I'm not saying there wasn't raining,
Keeping greenery and clean water holes.
We had muddy holes to cool our souls.
The wealthy swam in nice swimming pools.
We went to school and played by the rules.
We kids made the best of what we had, and
Rubber tires on dusty roads made us glad.
I'm saying that there were no lakes;
But there was enough heat to make one bake.
There were no beautiful brooks or ponds;
But we found other ways to have great fun.
In summer, we had to avoid hot feet,
because the dusty grounds inhaled the heat.
The farm crops were cotton, corn, and wheat.
There were soy beans and plenty of hay.
In the barns on 'hay stacks', we would play
hide and seek, jumping from stack to stack.
We kids wasted no time in pout and pain.
We knew that in time, this too would change.
