Not On This Earth

If you could grant every wish I ever made And vanquish all that’s turned me afraid, I could not love you more. If you could wipe clean my slate of errors And take from innocents countless terrors, I could not love you more. If you could end the savage wages of war And staunch the flood of blood and gore, I could not love you more. If you could reform holders of public trust And terminate their power and money lust, I could not love you more. If you could hold politicians to their claims And put on display their self-serving games, I could not love you more. If you could get Congress to reform taxes And the very earth should wobble off its axis, I could not love you more. My love for you is on free, inviolate ground. Not of this earth, dear, can its like be found.

A pleasure to read this fine poem. Message is right on target, verses are smooth and rhyme is excellent. Two ending verses are both gems.. A7

Your fourth, fifth and sixth stanzas ring so true to our times in the U.S.A. This is well written and a reminder not to keep our heads buried in the sand. I really enjoy the way you write. You seem a kindred spirit Paul. I hope you have a blessed 2016! #7

Coincidencidentally, I just made a comment on your blog about our dishonest politicians and when I came to read your poems I clicked on this one to find you have addressed them. I think people are needing to read this kind of truth right now, very timely. I would leave it in. Thanks for honest discourse, SuZ

Thank you, Suzanne. I am grateful for your comment, and I'm also grateful for the comment you made on my blog. I think both comments are (not surprisingly) "smack on."

This is a magnificent poem my dear, I really enjoyed reading it......the romanticism and the realism that it contains very touchy and pure and that's what makes it a great poem to read....... Great work my friend.... :)

A really good poem with good flow. I gave it 6 and not 7 because of the line about Congress. Personally, I would make the poem truly international for an international audience and rewrite the stanza about Congress making it more attractive to a global audience, but that is my only criticism. (I am from Wales in the UK and don't understand your Congress) Apart from that it's a really good poem, the things I would say to my wife.

David, how very kind of you to stop by with an encouraging comment. Please know how much I appreciate it. I understand your point about my reference to Congress. Your analysis is probably correct; poem might be better without that stanza. * * * Every good wish to you and your loved ones.
