Not Enough
Not Enough
just about when
imagination gives up
another empty glass breaks
lonely beauty changing all of it
not enough
just to write my name
pretending who I am is here
in the twisted ink
eager for the thin light
that rides between us
you gave to me
what I wouldn't take
still in my familiar place
your song rolls in my head
the final couplet left for ...
don't
more than skillful grief
the gift unopened is a lifetime at my feet
crumpled torn what would
have
still is
somewhere there
within it Cathy who
are you in the newborn now
not enough
just to say your name
deep in this hollow wound
dark white bones pass me by
no one calls the time away
another language laughs at me
from dust begins
to split these open eyes
