Not Broken Anymore

I found peace with myself, I'm not broken anymore
I've managed to swallow what I was choking on before
I faced my fears and I opened the door
I'm at a place where I feel happy and I'm not broken anymore

It feels like I'm in a dream state
Things feel good and I've got a clean state
No more fake smiles, this one right now is real
I'm no longer holding onto things I've seen escape

I learned to punch away the pain I was handed
I've finally learned to stop using sex as a bandage
I've stopped using girls as a plaster
I focused on myself and started to see that I matter

I used to drink daily to block things out
Now I drink in moderation
I used to stay quiet in a room full of people I know
But now I'm confident enough to start the conversation

Wounds that I thought wouldn't stop bleeding have finally healed
My heart has finally mended from the pain it had to feel
I got over the girl who hurt me most
I learned how to make love to happiness but first I had to flirt with hope

I became stronger once I accepted I was in need of help
I shared the chapters with the world that would make me cry when I would read them myself
I let go of the weapons I would use to beat on myself
I've finally found peace with myself

If this has any personal truth to it, I am happy that you've arrived at a much better place, Alex. If not, I know it will give courage to those who may still be 'imprisoned' in themselves. Thank you for airing such deep feelings. Wendy
