Not a One Could Help
He went through hell and back
An agony much too dreadful to bear
A family of doctors
And not a one could help
His suffering relentless
For weeks and months
Seemed inexhaustible
Finally he was set free
Mercifully sent to a better place
Yet the silence still reverberates
With echoes of screams and moans
His pain his wife still can hear
Like an unbearable haunting
Threatening to never go away
And fills her sleep with nightmares
The mild and gentle man
Who led a righteous life
To end his days this way
Sadistically intolerable
