there is no refuge
from unfounded accusation
innocence shattered

This has such depth of emotion for such a brief piece - skillfully done!

How true this is, Deb, and we see a lot of this happening today. We don't know whether to believe the accused or the accuser, but the accused's reputation is always questionable afterward. Excellent, thought-provoking verse! Hugs, Carolyn

Thank you, Carolyn. It's true that unless we stand insider another's shoes we can never really know the truth of an accusation. And yes, the accused is forever changed by an unfounded accusation.

O what a touching poem Deb - nothing hurts more than being wrongfully accused - it's the worst nightmare. Well penned with so few words.
