No Mere Matter of Chance
I would like to believe
That it is no mere matter of chance
That I was born.
I would like to believe
That I have life and breath
At this moment in time for a particular reason.
I would like to believe
That I can design my own dreams
And describe my own path,
And that never must I allow my age,
Or history,
Or status,
Or position
To exempt or prevent me from having a meaningful life.
I would like to believe
That I have been placed where I am for a purpose,
And despite all the obstacles and challenges I may face,
There is a plan for me.
I have to believe
That the promises for my future
Are full of hope, and goodness, and fulfillment,
And that neither my sins,
Nor my mistakes,
Nor my doubts,
Nor my questions
Will prevent me from following
The path I have described
That will someday lead me
To the fulfillment
Of those dreams I have designed.
