No Longer Drowning
Dripping wet with fears
How can I handle this?
What if I get lost?
Treading water in the dark
Faint stars twinkle through clouds
Fighting the desire to sink and swallow
Living another day with this curse
The weight of it around my ankles
Loosening the bands slowly
One notch at a time
Coming up for air
Each one more deliberate
Each time a bubble of hope buoys me
How long can I last?
Always another tomorrow to endure
But one ankle slips free
Prayers through the night
Sweats through the day
Valuable moisture lost in tears
Then finally surrender
Stop struggling and float
Prayers answered bonds fall away
I had but to choose life
Each wave lifts me skyward
No longer crashing over me
Just cradling
I rest in His hands
