No Fly Zone
........and then the sky was quiet
Freed from the invading noise
Returned to its youth
As if the progress of years
Had had no purpose in its sphere.
Creatures of wing and flight
Could now rejoice
Reclaim their space
And deliver songs unsilenced.
"The days would be different now"
Sang the sparrow, the dove, and the hawk,
"A grand sacrifice was made
Now the humans will talk".
Nature embraced the peace
Not knowing that its calm was shock
Nature mistook the impending storm
For a resetting of the clock.
I remember the days that followed
A sky emptied of travel
A curious currency was being collected
The world was crying in tandem
Unity laid like lambs
At the feet of the fallen
I saw the compassion gathering
Hand in hand we would prevail.
The sparrow watched
As the dove flew gracefully with the hawk.
Yes indeed
The humans did begin to talk
But not of tranquility
But of sowing the darkest seed
Tragedy is an opportunity to learn
Tragedy can expose uncharted truths
It is indignation that charts failure
As we repeat
repeat
and
replant
Those seeds of darkness
That will once again silence our sky,
But this time the sparrow, the dove, and the hawk
Will know that when humans talk
Their songs about pain and sacrifice
Will always to them
suffice.
