Nine-Eleven

far across country
smoke drifts..cries reverberate
sitting mesmerized
bewildered, mutely frightened
taste word...terrorist

No. 1 in Carolyn's contest.

Congrats, Carol...your last line drew an image of so much dust in the air that you couldn't avoid getting it in your mouth...hence, taste terrorist. Very concise wording...great tanka! Gwendolen

My favorite line "taste word...terrorist". We as a country were exposed as never before. Outstanding combination of words my friend. Congratulations on your 1st place win. Cr

That new word, which now seems too commonplace...such an ugly word it is. Excellent entry to Carolyn's contest, Joyce! Congratulations

I wish I could say beautiful, Joyce, but the scene was anything but beautiful. However, a quite worthy Tanka was to rank first place. Congratulations Joyce. Agape, Moses

Joyce, your poem captured all of the feelings from that moment -- bewilderment, mesmerized, crying. Indeed the "smoke" or impact drift far across the country. Outstanding tanka! Congratulations on your first-place win. Love, Carolyn

a very nasty word it was to taste too. One we had not thought much about before that fated time!
