Nightstand
Keep me somewhere where I know
You’ll reach.
No matter what time of day
No matter what time of night.
Keep me next to the glass of water
You keep on the nightstand,
A godsend to waking up in the middle
Of the night,
Thirst the first thing you feel.
Coming from out to in,
To save a walk to the kitchen
In the middle of the night.
Keep me somewhere close,
Somewhere decent & near.
By a small stack of books,
To insight thought, a bottle of
Hot sauce.
Keep me somewhere where I know
You’ll reach, sooner or later.
Keep me where the light of your phone
Is the brightest,
The sonication of a good dream before
Waking up.
Plugged & charged on the nightstand.
Ready to get you through the day.
Where you keep one remote smaller
Than the other,
Somewhere where I know you’ll reach,
Sooner or later
