Nightscapes - Part 2

Pre-dawn, and the street-lamp sputters, merchants come to raise their shutters, regard the fading moon, and mutter, 'yet another day.' Begone, O bride of midnight! favour us with not another glance, put your spells away, you'll not lead us in our tribal dance. Behold a wrinkled substitute, a crone who likes to think that she's a queen; with as much grace as she can muster, she flusters, fidgets, lonely in her room. Feathered and be-furbelowed she plays with her decolletage, she's mutton dressed as lamb. The smell of stale tobacco and a whiff of old perfume, no longer with an entourage she dances out of rhythm to the tango, rusty and unconstituted, wraith-like, a phantom in her tomb. At twenty past I'm home at last, the brass plate spells my name; come inside! familiar and gratifying, slippers by my bed still lying, dressing gown and cap are crying here abide! The sheets are turned and ready for me, give up the ghosts and take a final bow. Welcome from then 'til now.

And a perfect ending to part one, part one was certainly of a scary nature. Very diverse. Bold...

Whoops, I missed part 2 before. This had me holding my breath, so as not to disturb my journey. Amazing. So descriptive, it is painful to imagine such scenes. I love the contrast at the end, which somehow makes 'it all better'. Kx

These two poems (Nightscapes 1 also) are amazing!!! I love the images you paint with your words... my favorite is prolly the first two stanzas of number one, but these are also gorgeous. I'm really jealous... I find it almost impossible to write good poetry in rhyme, but you did an awesome job here!

Yikes, are you kidding??? Certainly you will be famous one day. Are you sure you are not already, writing incognito??? In all honesty, there are a few extremely talented writers here, you sir are one one of them. Do announce if you have, or will ever have a book out. From other comments down below, I am sure they are just a small sampling of many who would love to buy your book. Thanks Keith! Happy new year! Love, Shar

I'm totally with Kristin. We want a book! Of course, I'd be completely jealous if I stay unprinted, but you're amazing ability with words and imagery would make up for that. Thanks for another great read, Keith. Nathaniel :D

Man oh man, thank you Keith for drawing my attention to this poem. Masterfully thought out, and penned. You KNEW I'd be bowled over, I'm sure of it!:) You show great devotion and unwavering commitment to your craft..I am bowled over. Thank you for your comment on 'counting sheep'..now I feel it must have been a rhyme composed by 'Little Bo Peep', herself.:) You, Keith, have composed a masterpiece! This is an honour and a privledge to read. God bless you and yours..and thank you! Love, Mikki

This painted pictures of what I thought Old London would be like. I could see the streets and the night life in the nineteenth century. I was a Sherlock Holmes freak when I was a kid and was in love with Old London. These took me back. Enjoyed much. Vince
