Nightmares

Memories of a haunted past
Lurk dangerously in my dreams
Like dark magic being cast
I am alone
Nobody hears my screams

I lay in bed, trying to sleep
Cautiously closing my eyes
The shadows dancing on the wall
Slowly begin to rise

Trees scratch my window
Rain begins to pour
My eyelids close
all goes black
I hope I do not snore

I am standing at the top
This skyscraper is high
If I don't open my eyes soon
There is a chance I may just die

Lost at sea
Nobody but me
No life preserver or raft
I have nowhere to flee

In the center of a gang war
I am on neither side
Twenty blood thirsty thugs
I know I won't survive

These dreams must mean something
But I can never tell
I'll keep having these nightmares
Like I'm entering the gate of hell

Jared, this poem is truly amazing, well done, keep in mind, dreams even nightmares can be used by poets in a positive way... I get many ideas for my poems from dreams or meditations that take me to scary and sometimes wonderful places, almost like an observer I am.. take the nightmares, just like you did this one and turn it into poetry then release it to the universe...

Jared, you really have your words, and lines, arranged well to yield the maximal effect to express the point you are making here, I am as proud of you as if I were your pop! I've also had these types of dreams. The one about being on the skyscraper, most of all. In my dream of this one, in my case I learn to turn loose and when I did I would soar like an eagle. Any way, great write, Moses THANKS FOR YOU COMMENT ON MY WORK, AS ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

You truly capture the essence of nightmares, Jared. I have been plagued by them all of my life, and I've had the same one you share about being "lost at sea." I like the way you set up the entry to slumber by describing the eeries shadows on the wall, the frightening sounds of the trees scratching the windows and the rain that helps us fall asleep. Excellent on many levels and I love the rhyme scheme. Love, Carolyn
