Night terrors bring fear to my dreams at night unable to breathe, I gasp, terrified. I've experienced nightmares beyond fright and so intense that when woken, I've cried. I hear dead soldiers whisper in my head a constant murmur that morphs into screams. I utter prayers meant to ward off the dead, but they manifest themselves in my dreams. It oft starts with little more than a sigh, then suddenly, I'm overwhelmed by fear. Escalating, I feel like I will die, and awake, that fear doesn't disappear. War's agonizing, emotional pain, tortures me, over and over again. (Sonnet) 4/29/2021 Writing Prompt - Breathe - Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Constance La France

Exceptional imagery, Emile. Did you ever consider these experiences may reflect those of your childhood? I'd like to think this is good writing, not a part of your personal history. In any case, terrifying.

Hi Milt, I wrote this to highlight what some Vets suffer as a form of "PTSD" Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, after being subjected to war and the atrocities associated with war, I appreciate your comments my friend, Emile.
