Night Tastes Like

Night Tastes Like Night tastes like: Hot, black coffee freshly perked. Dark pumpernickel bread fresh out of the oven. Sweet black licorice stringy kind of course. A thick slice of Mississippi mud pie. A piece of dark chocolate slightly bitter. Dark bottom shoefly pie made with black strap molasses. The sense of taste can heighten our sense of imagination. *shoefly pie is Pennsylvania Dutch type of pie made with molasses*

Hello Oliver, What a feast for the senses, evoking the depth and richness of night through taste. It’s a brilliant reminder of how something as simple as taste can transport us to a different realm of imagination. Well done! Winter Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

i can relate to most of this, oliver (and am glad to find a fellow black licorice lover!) but, like anne-lise, my hot perked coffee has to be in the morning. i know i've tasted shoefly pie, but it's not part of my usual treats. i love the way you've strung these delicious images together, though...

I think this describes night very well. I am not familiar with Mississippi Mud Pie. Never tasted pumpernickel bread nor molasses. All of which sound interesting. Sara K

Oliver, black licorice if flavored with true licorice if eaten in a large quantity is poison. So, I would not eat much of that. Sara K

Black strap molasses... haven't heard that in a while. Sounds like a night in which all of those things are eaten, or you have and now so full that you can't sleep. lol Oliver, are you by chance a Southern guy?

Thanks for reading Lin. Glad you liked this one. I was born in Tennessee and lived there a total of 8 yrs of my life with a lot of stops in between. Georgia, North Carolina, Florida--mostly PA though. In fact live there now. Was introduced to shoefly pie in the 60's in Lancaster area of PA by the PA Dutch.
