Night Sky
On a lush moonlit hill, where Earth and night meet
I lay beneath a star-filled sky and watch a bright orb rise
filling the darkness with a softer light
a jewel filled necklace hangs from the throat of God
where my mind stills
engaged by beacons, glowing in the round sky
they appear one by one
and lay across space, inviting the soul to wander
I am absorbed by its vastness
to know what I see, I will never touch
a prisoner captured by my own eyes
finding beauty and majesty beyond reach
dots lost in the deep black of space
I bow, to the night sky, a sea I will never travel
a place where wishes are said to come true
where the farthest star is a candle on another world
and time, an empty chalice to fill
with my dim lit realm of imagination
where I compare humanity to creation
