Night of Passion and Desire

Night of passion and desire
Still describes my favorite book
Raw emotion, like the fire
Still prescribes a second look

Turn the pages, yearning rages
Passions rising, taking flight
Lovers bloom in subtle stages
Tossing petals left and right

Chapter one is for the ages
Lover’s meet and love on sight
Chapter two reflects the wages
Some ignore and some ignite

Chapter three may breed dispassion
Embers glowing turning grey
Chapter four may need some fashion
On a lover's holiday

Every chapter tells a story
Every chapter breaks the rules
Every twist of fate and glory
Celebrates the family jewels

Chapter thirteen ends with sorrow
Lovers go their separate ways
Neither one can see tomorrow
Rising from their yesterdays

Chapter fourteen wistful longing
Lacerates a lonely heart
Memories of true belonging
Now demand another start

Chapter fifteen turns the tables
Passion, romance reignite
Ever after storied fables
Never seem to get it right

Suddenly their hearts are breaking
Romance won is romance lost
One last night of sweet love-making
Doesn't justify the cost

For the sake of seedy rapture
Miss Rapunzel grew her hair
All the love she hoped to capture
Will not save her from the chair.

Passion and desire burn with love and angst in the creative beauty of rhythm, rhyme and imagery, Bryan. A fantastic piece that is deep and heartfelt. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

With me, I don't have any pretensions that people should read my poems, much less comment. I do try to entertain with my poems. I worry that what is popular with PoetrySoup is not appealing to the general public. In a strange way, the more views or contest winning poems that we have tend to make us more insulated and content with ourselves and more disconnected with the public, sort of like the movie "Strictly Ballroom." In almost all of my poems, I like to try something new. Of course, I realize that everybody believes they are the very best at poem writing, and maybe they are. In any event, I will keep trying, but I will also continue to ask whether a member of the general public would actually pay good money to buy this poem of mine. Can I make you laugh? Well, enough, but sweet dreams, dear one.

Noooo, your poem is fabulous and my reply inspired by its fire. I too, noticed that last night after I read your poem it still showed no viewers. I'm sad to know that it's still the case. I'm sure others have read it, though comments can be scarce - a shame for such a great poem. Maybe contact PS admin about a possible glitch..

Thank you for your lovely comments, much better than my poem! Interestingly, My Poems tells me that I have not yet had any viewers for this poem, and yet you clearly read it. Makes me wonder how accurate those statistics are. Take care!
