New Year Day 2016

I hesitate to lose the day,
it is the end of the old
and the beginning of the new year.
Ticking towards the midnight hour,
	a sense of sadness swells
in saying goodbye to the old year
as it floods the mind with images.
Regrets surface, the should haves, could haves,
	would haves, lost in the too late nows;
the year is gone, time paused without rewind
now drifting off into other midnights to come.
Beginning anew, a rebirth,
        restart, resurgence
	to improve, succeed, survive
in lieu of guessing what may await.
It’s okay, all will be well
it is the continuance of life in time
	struggling to find
        and attain the dream.
I let the old day go,
	welcomed in the new
with plans of being better, stronger, wiser
	than I ever was before.
