As needles fall from Christmas trees the year dies,
Midnight fireworks explode with fizzing anticipation.

I like the imagery, Elizabeth. Back in my home country, there are lots of fireworks on new years eve. Here this does not seem common.

We usually have lots of fireworks in our local village, they are quite spectacular.
