New and Reused…Wrappings
Paper,
blue, green and red,
yellow and gold together, with bells.
I dream about all the holidays,
that have passed by,
since you left.
They have been good,
and bad, and hard and full.
Many were also empty.
Some were not okay.
No one knew where you were.
No one knew where you went.
We still pray all the time.
We make it.
We think of you,
and want you to make it too.
Presents every year,
placed beneath the tree,
not expensive…
as we have no money,
and can barely eat.
Yet…
no one to open them,
no one to see.
More for the closet,
it is long passed full,
but we will stuff it still.
Just in case,
you come home.
We eat the cookies,
they are not left on the plate.
We sing softly, but not loudly,
as not to scare the memories
of you…
away.
