Never Was I So Embarrassed
Today, even after ages, I feel my cheeks grow hot
Thinking of the blunder I made, comes back to thought!
Freshly out of school, silly and ignorant that I was,
Of work site I knew nothing, but was daring even with flaws.
On my first day, out to impress and win confidence
I set to work to every demand, to show off my competence.
I knew not anything of hierarchy, rules and regulations
For I was in living, for my age, in total abstractions.
Thus, boldly I asked my boss to help me carry my files,
As of him I knew nothing, and I gave him my sweetest smiles.
He stood shocked then abide, gallantly lifting the load
And carried it to my table, then surprisingly to me he bowed.
By lunch time, talking to girls, I realized my blunder
and in the corridor I crossed him, my emotions asunder.
“Anything for you Ma’am” he whispered to my ears, passing by.
Heart pounding, I stood dumb, never had I felt so shy.
Then like a hunted animal, I run as if for life.
To the washroom I hid, to escape his laughter with mockery rife!
