Never Never Land

Sad broken boy
When will you become a man
You try flying high
wishing you were Peter Pan
But you don’t understand
the stuff you’re putting in your veins
is taking you to a Never Never Land

That pain you hold
you’ll never ever escape
with needles pills or vape
You’re giving up bits of yourself
that the Hook is happy to take
On wobbly legs you walk the plank
and the crocodile is wide awake

One more Never Never Land trip
could mean never ever being free
That place you travel to
it won’t help you to truly see
The real trip is facing your misery
You can’t mine for silver
floating in the clouds
above your history

In the world you travel to
the monsters are real
The power they yield
is making you not feel
I know that numbness has its own appeal
Still I wish I could show you
you’re making a bad deal
Your soul is being dined on
and the demons are enjoying the meal

Seek God’s help
He has a perfect plan
He can heal the boy and the man
Things can be better than
being a pretend Peter Pan
Choose the great escape
from Never Never Land
You are meant to inhabit a Promised Land
It's your choice
leave you burden at the Cross
take Jesus's hand.

Hi Richard, this is such a painful piece of poetry to read. So many of our youth are turning to drugs these days, sometimes they think it will only be short term to get them over something but most times that short term turns into long term and in many cases, death. You take us to the sad heart of your subject, once more painting such vivid imagery. I love the hope at the end, my friend. Let God lead the way into a peaceful life. Love the content my friend. Have a wonderful Friday....Mike. Fav.

Touching and thought-provoking with feet-on-the ground realism. Moreover, the rhyme scheme is remarkable, as is the imagery. Among the head-turning lines: "Your soul is being dined on/and the demons are enjoying the meal." Nice, nice work, Richard.

Powerful message that carries a hope for recovery in God. I really relate, and all poetry that shows addicts that there is a better way should be written and posted. I loved this!

This poem is brilliantly written Richard! Asking for God’s help even in a whisper can change someone’s life forever. If only they would listen. Excellent advice! xxoo

Powerful well crafted verse Rick ... some good advice that we all wish addicts would take ... sadly some don’t know how to live without and they end up dying at young ages. Great write :) hugs

Seeking God is the ultimate.. Even though this poem points to a young boy, I think, we adults can still relate to it. No challenge, whatsover is bigger than God who is the ultimate solution. A great write my friend and I am wishing you a happy new year.

Well said and nicely written, someone becoming a slave to drugs is never never a good thing. One who seeks to escape reality should look inward and pray.

Addictions kill, period. Many won't face the fact that alcohol is a drug that kills many. It is far from "bubbly". It's a sedative that depresses the CNA. People in the US pop Oxicotin like Skittles and Think nothing of it. Many are users and do not know it. Hooked, thanks to their MDs. PS. MJ and writers add Hollywoid also live in Never Land. They just don't get it.

A perfect first poem for 20 20. The metaphor is perfect.......drugs are an dangerous and empty path. Belief in a higher power is the safer way to peace. Maybe my Muse will wake up soon. Cheers, SuZ
