never love

I feel your presence in every place I feel safe in your warm embrace But how can I explain the terrible secret I hold so close Love is something I’ve never known I can’t tell you I love you Because that untrue I can’t tell you I need you I feel for you something I’ve never felt When your around I just want to be held I want you to keep me close But in the back of my mind the truth is screaming He loves someone And she isn’t you You can’t love You don’t know how to He's just being nice He doesn’t really care But still I drown in the ocean that is your eyes The gentle waves sweeping over my skin Aggressive currents pulling me in Kind dolphins and turtles swim with me Sharks circle pulling me deep But that doesn’t matter I can’t love you And you can’t love me But still the quick sand that is your smile It pulls me in and I can’t move The harder I try The less I succeed You could never love a girl like me I’m far below average I’ve got nothing special But still when you hold me I can’t help but wonder Is there some universe where it is you and me Where she isn’t in the picture Is there a universe that I knew how to love you Where I could hold you in my arms as you do me Where we could live happily But the girl like me doesn’t get the happy ending She ends up the maid Or stuck with the dragon So me I’ll just have to watch from afar As you sit with her and she wins your heart
