Never Forget
The noise of battle raged all around
distant guns, the smell and the sound
mingled with fear, lost hope and death
scars on the wounded- those who are left
The young, the old, forgotten men
lie in the earth, graves in scores of ten
friend, brother, son and lover
war full of terror as one man kills another
Years they may pass, survivors recall
army days, comradeship as if they loved them all
but deep down inside they hide their true sorrow
remembering friends who had no tomorrow.
Yet, from their sacrifice our freedom came
soldiers so brave some came home again
wear your red poppy and wear it with pride
for those who fought and for those who died.
'Lest we should ever forget'
