Never Enough
I loved the way we spoke,
without words. Torrents
of understanding were
set off, though touch was
never enough. Through you,
I found the things I’d lost,
you fetched me back
from my rust and residue.
How we flew on that cusp,
wing over wing. It was
never enough, we had to
make do, to share with the
others, the needers, who
took from us. So close,
those little moments,
stolen for you and for me.
I absorbed you into
my void, colorless world,
I overflowed. Whereas you
disappeared, you flew
away from temptation,
you buried this proof
that love is so real,
we both knew it too.
What shall I do with these
precious fragments of you,
our half-finished puzzle,
belonging in part to you
but also to me?
My grateful heart will
just linger and wait in these
never enough moments with you.
