Nessie, Wattie and Kin

Nessie, Wattie and Kin

A full ten years before Nessie was first sighted
Colonel Arthur Trimble visited Loch Watten
A dark, looming shape Trimble’s interest ignited
It’s now speculated Nessie has some twins

Oceanographers say that before the Ice Age
Loch Ness was connected to the Atlantic sea
So let us turn the history book back a page
A similar creature’s been seen in Lake Erie

American cousins for Nessie and Wattie
Giant sea serpent’s been spotted in Lake Champlain
He is known as Champ and Lake Erie’s is Bessie
Four ocean cast outs roam an inland sea domain

Could it be that the plesiosaurus lives on
In Scotland as well as in North America
Trapped in these lakes when the Ice Age seas had withdrawn
At same latitudes, but not killers like Orka

So if I make my way to see bonnie Scotland
I’ll be chartering a boat, bringing diving gear
In hopes of catching a glimpse of Nessie firsthand
As I explore Loch Ness’s undersea frontier

An interesting and entertaining write. I have been to Loch Ness, but I never saw a ripple! Most of the photos have been discredited as fakes, but who knows? We all need a bit of intrigue and tantalizing legend. Good luck in the contest. Robert.

Oh Carolyn, a great educational write!!! But everything might be possible. I also wonder what Lake Baikal in Russia got for surprises, the world oldest lake and 5,387 ft deep!!! I hope you will manage it some day to visit Bonnie Olde Scotland and to meet Jack and James....and Nessie!!! Wish you best of luck for the contest!...Love, Gert

OH, Carolyn, I noticed you used "legendary" to describe my poem for Dr. Ram. heehee. Too bad I could not use it for both contests. I have another one ready for your contest, but I am holding off posting it because I just barely put up the other one!! thanks for your comment.

As you know Carolyn, I stay 5 miles from Loch Ness. I have yet to see anything, but so many do. Re the diving gear. Loch Ness is incredibly deep, and visibilty is not good. It will take great eyes to peer through the murky waters. Good luck in Thvia's contest.....:)

Amazing and informative poem, Carolyn - a winner for sure : ) Jack. I've fallen for several unresponsive women in my time LOL but the one in my poem for Dr Ram's contest was John Donne's, not mine - I didn't know his poem, I must confess, and had to read it.

Smile, *^_^* Fascinating has the lore of Loch Ness always been and yet I somehow believe that its existence could very easily be, far from fiction. = But, I have always loved lovely Nessie so, perhaps I am a bit biased towards the doubters or maybe more so because, I simply love creation, life, dreams and happiness topped with this, the icing of love. == Beautifully brushed canvas painted amid wonderful hues of intrigues presentation, my dear. === love, jasper
