Notes About The Poem

In Nepal, educated men and women are trying to do away with the practice of forcing young women and girls into a dark hut by themselves during their menstruation periods. Many of these young women have been attacked and killed by tigers, raped by men, for they are alone and unprotected. Some have died from being too cold, others have died from snake bite in these small stifling huts, away from their families. Some as young as twelve and fourteen have been found dead.  Many educated people are burning these huts and outlawing this practice of forcing these girls into insolation when they are deemed "unclean".

This is a video explaining.

Nepal's Daughters Isolation Huts

Asphyxiated and found dead
Raped and found dead
Unsure what happened, and found dead
Nepali women found dead

Snake bitten and found dead
Eaten by tigers and found dead
Left in a small dark menstrual hut
And found dead

Nepali women found dead
Shunned and labelled unclean
Ostracized for the wonderful way
God has insured they can have babies

Asphyxiated, raped, snaked, and frozen
And found dead. Someone is not right in the head.
These huts should be torn up and spit out.
Please, people, permanently get these women out!

I was unaware of this, but am aware that there are still some places in the world where brutality towards women, towards children, towards the elderly or the disabled is commonly practiced, AS IF IT WAS ACCEPTABLE! There is no word for the sorrow this brings up. We all must learn about such things, then DO what we can do to stop them! FIE!

Andrew, I am glad to bring a "light" to these kinds of situations, so people do KNOW. Knowing about what is happening is the first step toward stopping things before they get out of hand. Thank you for the visit, my friend.

Disturbing poem... but appropriately so! This is an utterly horrifying problem. Hopefully by shedding light on it (like your poem does), more people will realize how very wrong this practice is- and do away with these huts forever!! Great work!

Thank you my friend; when I see something disturbing I feel it is up to me to lead the "fray".

So dark! It's hard to believe that places like this still exist while we are sleeping in comfort. Glad you brought it to our attention.

Thank you Sunlite. When it was brought to my attention I was a bit horrified, and yet, such horrible practices do exist; I think the key to eliminating such travesties IS to bring them to light.
