Nearness

A barrier to love can be
merely distance – natural for
the heart to love when in
close proximity. Nearness
often propagates dearness. A
general rule though not an
axiom. For hate is an imposing
affiliate.

Hi Sara; thank you. Short, but a lot of soul searching went into this work.

And then there's absence making the heart grow fonder! Or if not that, then out of sight out of mind.

Hi Andrea; many dimensions to love. This poem written to be open to personal interpretation. As you say, nearness, does not necessarily mean miles...one can be in the same room and absent. And far away physically, does not mean out of the heart and mind. Of all the mysteries in life, love is perhaps the easiest to decipher while the most difficult -- the heart a volcano of human emotions entwined. The heart, what it represents spiritually, goes on forever as the song goes.

Your great effectively conveys the idea that physical distance can be a challenge to love, but it also uniquely recognises how proximity can foster affection. The juxtaposition with hate adds depth to your short but meaningful poem.
